Hikking

The mountains behind Kobe are great to hike on, especially in Spring or fall. If it is your first time to hike than I advice you to take Mt. Maya (708M) , and for the ones that have some more experience I advice Mt. Rokko (931.6M).

Rokko sanThe best way to hike up Mt. Maya is from the Shin-Kobe station, where you pass the Nunubiki waterfall. It will take you around 3 to 4 hours to hike up to Mt. Maya.

Mt. Rokko can be reached by different locations, but the best place to start is from Hankyu Okamoto, or Hankyu Ashiyagawa. It will take you around 4 to 5 hours to reach the top, where you have a great view over the whole area, and where you can enjoy a nice dinner or a cold beer on a warm day.

The only negative thing is that all the signs on the trails are in Japanese characters. So the best time to hike would be in the weekend when it is a little bit more crowded and where you can ask other hikers if you have to go left or right.
